Ludwig Georg Friedrich Beck , also Ludwig George Beck (born November 26, 1887 in Munich ; † January 1962 ) was a German stage actor and director , screenwriter and actor in silent films .

Life

Born in Munich, he played in theaters in his hometown from a young age before joining films in the late phase of the First World War . After his debut, the drama Die Unveilierte Maja , produced by Peter Ostermayr , in which Hanna Ralph made her film debut, Beck mainly shot comedies, including four comedies with Pepi Glöckner and six more with Thea Steinbrecher. This was followed by other dramas such as The Sacrifice of Iris and The Shadow Player, as well as two Ludwig Ganghofer film adaptations with Der Jäger von Fall und Gewitter in May .

Beck remained committed to different genres, shot comic and dramatic things: with Manuela, the hunted rascal, scoundrels or the exposure of Miss Mac, Countess Alexandra's doppelganger and the six-part Manuela, the woman without nerves, also a number of less ambitious sensational and adventure films with which he followed in the footsteps of Harry Piel . Beck's later output was also produced simply and cheaply; none of his productions has any significance for film history.

By the beginning of the 1920s, his film career was largely over. In the early sound film, apart from two short film directors in 1932 for UFA producer Heinz Hille , Beck was only offered one or the other assistant director ( ... and it lights up the Puszta (1933), It's about my life (1936)). After that his track is lost.

Ludwig George Beck was married to the Munich silent film actress Ria Mabeck (1894–?) (An anagram of the name Maria Beck ), who played the female lead in a number of his productions.
