Ludwig blue

Ludwig Blau ( Hungarian Lajos Blau , née Jehuda Arje Blau, April 29, 1861 in Putnok , Austrian Empire ; died March 8, 1936 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian Jewish scholar. From 1914 to 1932 he was director of the State Rabbinical School in Budapest.

His specialty, in which he published a large number of books and other publications (articles in the journal for Hebrew bibliography, in the yearbooks of the Hungarian Literature Association, etc.), was Talmudic law and realia.

Life

Ludwig Blau studied a. a. at the yeshiva in Pressburg and from 1880 to 1888 at the regional rabbinical school in Budapest, where he worked as a teacher (“ supplent ”) for the Talmud from 1887 . In parallel, he studied philosophy and oriental studies at the University of Budapest ( Promotion to Dr. phil. 1887). He received his rabbi diploma in 1888. In the same year he was admitted to the State Rabbinical School Budapest a. o. and in 1889, finally, full professor of the Bible , Hebrew and Aramaic languages ​​and Talmud (until his death); In 1899 he also took over the management of the library there (until 1922); In 1914 he was appointed director of this institution.

For many decades (1890 to 1930) he was editor of the Hungarian-Jewish magazine Magyar Zsidó Szemle . He was a member of the board of the Mekize nirdamim association.
