Ludwig Frahm was the only child of a farmer. He attended school until 1872 and in 1873 became a sub-teacher in Jersbek . He then studied from 1876 to 1878 at the teachers' seminar, today's Ludwig Meyn School in Uetersen . Frahm then worked as a teacher in Tremsbüttel , in 1881 in Duvenstedt and in 1882 in Rethwischfeld near Bad Oldesloe . He then served from 1890 to 1920 head teacher and rector in Poppenbüttel . Ludwig Frahm collected stories, poems and legends of his homeland and wrote mostly Low German poems and humoresques. In February 1900 he founded the Alster Association, which still exists today .

Ludwig Frahm's wife was born in Thormählen and, like the well-known diary author and whaler Jacob Thormählen, came from the same family based in Uetersen.

Ludwig Frahm's grave is located in the Bergstedt cemetery in Hamburg.
