Albert Friedrich Jakob Ludwig Keller (born November 7, 1839 in Cadolzburg ; † June 30, 1911 in Ansbach ) was a German lawyer and politician , he worked for almost 28 years as the so-called legally qualified mayor of the city of Ansbach.

Life

Ludwig Keller was born the son of the Protestant pastor Johann Konrad Keller in Cadolzburg. With this the family moved to the pastor's office in Stetten in what is now Gunzenhausen , and Ludwig was sent to the “parish orphanage” in Windsbach . From 1849 Ludwig Keller attended the Ansbacher Gymnasium, where he lived in the student dormitory (Alumneum). After disciplinary problems, he switched to the Anna-Gymnasium in Augsburg , where he finally passed the Abitur. He studied law in Erlangen and Munich. In 1862 he became a member of the Corps Bavaria Munich . After completing his studies, Keller completed his legal clerkship in Ansbach again from 1863. After his father's death, he lived with his mother and sister in Ansbach.

On June 11, 1867, Ludwig Keller married the 20-year-old pastor's daughter Auguste Hetzel, with whom he had nine children.

In later years, Keller suffered from increasing visual impairment , after an operation he became completely blind in one eye, and the eyesight of the other eye was severely weakened.

Political activity

In 1871, Keller was elected to the city of Ansbach's “legally qualified magistrate”. After the death of Mayor Wilhelm Mandel , Keller became Mayor of Ansbach in October 1877. Lasting results of his tenure are the water supply of Ansbach from the springs of Gersbach , the construction of new sewers and the connection of all houses to the central water supply.

Ansbach grew strongly under Keller, and accordingly many new development areas were designated during his tenure.

From 1877 to 1893, Ludwig Keller was also a member of the Central Franconian district assembly. From September 28, 1893 to August 11, 1904, he was then a member of the Bavarian State Parliament (as a representative of the German Liberal Party ), initially as the fourth secretary, from December 9, 1897 to September 29, 1903 as vice-president and for the remainder of the term in office as a "simple" MP.

Honors

Due to his services, Keller was awarded the personal title of nobility by the Bavarian King in 1896 , and in 1901 he was appointed royal secret councilor. The city of Ansbach granted honorary citizenship .
