The socket FM1 is a processor socket from the company AMD . It was presented at the beginning of July 2011 and is a new development for the use of a CPU with an integrated GPU and an integrated Northbridge .

The biggest change of the chipset used with this socket compared to previous chipsets is that the northbridge on the mainboard is no longer necessary (since it is integrated into the CPU), only a southbridge is via Unified Media Interface (UMI), which is on the PCI -Express -Standard based, connected to the CPU. The new southbridge also contains an integrated USB 3.0 controller for the first time (A75 only). Graphics cards and other peripherals with high bandwidth requirements are connected to the PCIe 2.0 controller integrated in the processor via PCIe. It was replaced in 2012 by the FM2 socket .
