Socket FM2 + refers to a processor socket from the company AMD , which was designed for use in desktop computers . It was presented at the beginning of June 2013 in connection with APU models from the Kaveri series and is a further development of the previous FM2 socket . FM2 + supports various processor models based on the AMD Fusion concept , i.e. with an integrated Northbridge and GPU . The latter may have been deactivated by the manufacturer. In AMD's documentation, the socket is given the technical name FM2r2.

Basically, the properties are the same as those of the predecessor, a slightly different pin assignment and thus a new socket was necessary. FM2 + is backwards compatible with the processors for the FM2 socket (Trinity and Richland models).

As part of the AMD Fusion concept, all Northbridge-typical functions have been integrated on the microchip of the main processor since 2011 . AMD offers the so-called Fusion Controller Hub (FCH) for the implementation of PC- typical peripheral interfaces with comparatively low bandwidth . The A88X, A78, A68H or A58 models are intended by the manufacturer for FM2 + systems. They have been slightly revised compared to their predecessors, including in the area of USB 3.0 implementation (xHCI 1.0). The A88X and the A78 differ only slightly, mainly through 8 or 6 SATA interfaces.
