Ludwig Narcissus
Ludwig Wendelin Oskar Narziss (born September 30, 1925 in Munich ) is a German brewing scientist . He is the author of standard works on brewing and an internationally recognized mentor in the field.
Life
Narcissus comes from a brewery-affine family, his father was a director at Hacker-Bräu in Munich and later at Lederer Bräu in Nuremberg. Instead of doing a commercial apprenticeship as his father wanted, he began his professional training with an apprenticeship as a brewer at Tucher Bräu .
He then studied brewing at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan . He then worked for several years as a research assistant and business consultant for the Bavarian State Trade Institute in Nuremberg and the Weihenstephan State Testing Institute. In 1956 he received his doctorate on the influence of yeast on the properties of beer . From 1958 to 1964 he was the first master brewer at Munich Löwenbräu AG .
On April 1, 1964, he was appointed to the chair for technology at Brewery I at the Weihenstephan University as the successor to Karl Schuster . At the same time he took over the management of the Bavarian teaching and experimental brewery . In 1992 he retired.
On September 13, 2019, the Technical University of Munich awarded him an honorary doctorate (Dr. Ing.), "In recognition of his outstanding scientific pioneering achievements, which have set international research standards in the field of brewing and beverage technology and for his trend-setting textbooks and monographs on brewing technology" . eh).

Ludwig Narziss Prize for Brewing Science
The Ludwig-Narziss-Prize for Brewing Science has been awarded annually since 2015 for scientific publication in the specialist journal BrewingScience with the greatest relevance for brewing practice.
