Ludwig Rubelli from Sturmfest
Ludwig Rubelli von Sturmfest (also Lodovico Rubelli ; * January 1842 in Zara , Dalmatia , † January 25, 1905 in Graz ) was an Austrian marine painter of Italian descent.
Life
Rubelli appeared as the son of a colonel - Auditors in 1861 in the imperial navy , off whom he had two years was later released under unspecified circumstances again already. His further career is unknown, he only became known as a marine painter in the 1880s . Rubelli exhibited his paintings, some of which came into imperial possession, at exhibitions he organized himself in the hotels in Trieste , Fiume and Budapest . He lived with his family in Gorizia .
His pictures were particularly valued by the Hungarian nobility and shipping companies . In addition to numerous portraits of ships , history paintings and landscapes of him are also known. Like his contemporaries August von Ramberg and Alexander Kircher , he also knew a lot about ship operations, so that his depictions of ships are among the best paintings in this genre .
Rubelli died in an asylum , the " Feldhof " near Graz in Styria .
