Ludwig Rusch

Ludwig Rusch (* 1897 ; † 1979 ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism , prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp , head of the German military resistance in the International Military Organization Buchenwald (IMO) and SED functionary in the GDR .

Life

After attending primary school, Rusch learned the trade of tailor . He joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was involved in the Weimar Republic against the emergence of National Socialism . In the early 1930s he worked for the Soviet trade agency in Leipzig . After the transfer of power to the Nazis , he was in "1933 protective custody taken" and a three-year prison prison sentenced, he in Waldheim prison was serving. Then he was in the concentration camp Sachsenhausen concentration castle transferred. In 1939 Rusch was admitted to the Buchenwald concentration camp and assigned to the SS tailoring department as a Kapo . Here he played a major role in the illegal prisoner resistance . In the early days of the work of the International Military Organization Buchenwald (IMO), Ludwig Rusch was the head of the prisoners from Saxony . From the end of 1942 Rusch had command over the German national section of the IMO. He was also a leader in the weapons training of the insurgents. From mid-1944 he headed the “Yellow” sector, which comprised the German, Austrian and Dutch groups.

After the end of the Second World War , Rusch belonged to the " Military History " working group of the former prisoners, who submitted a comprehensive report on the work of the resistance within the Buchenwald concentration camp under the title "Self-liberation as the result of many years of political and military preparatory work".

In the GDR, Rusch was part of the SED district leadership in Dresden-South and most recently lived in Leipzig .
