Ludwig Steindorff

Ludwig Steindorff (born February 7, 1952 in Hamburg ) is a German historian .

Life

He studied history, Slavic and German in Heidelberg and Zagreb . He passed the first state examination in 1978 and received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1981. From 1981 to 1991 he was a research assistant at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he received his habilitation in 1990 . From 1991 to 1997 he was a university lecturer in Münster , where he became an adjunct professor in 1997 and from 1997 to 2000 he was involved in the DFG project Bolshevik Church Policy. He was also a visiting professor in Zagreb and Budapest and a lecturer in Düsseldorf and Wuppertal . He represented a chair in Cologne . From 2000 to 2017 he taught as a professor for the history of Eastern and Southeastern Europe at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , where he worked in the graduate school Imaginatio borealis from 2002 to 2008 and was vice dean for studies and examinations at the philosophical faculty from 2006 to 2008 . From 2006 to 2015 he was a permanent delegate of the CAU in the Philosophical Faculty Day. Since 2009 he has been the scientific director of the Schleswig-Holstein University Society.

His main research interests are the history of Old Russia, medieval urban history in Southeast Europe, national and confessional identity in Southeast Europe since the 19th century, and the state and church under socialism.
