Ludwig Ziemssen

Ludwig Ziemssen (born September 29, 1823 in Greifswald ; † January 3, 1895 in Friedenau ) was a German educator , writer and editor .

He was the son of the court judge and secret judge Wilhelm Karl Ludwig Ziemssen. He attended grammar school in Greifswald and then the university there and studied philology and history. His father died in 1842, which forced him to earn a living while studying. In 1846 he went to Berlin and taught at a high school for girls as a student. Then he worked for a few years as a tutor in Neu-Placht and Bankau . In Berlin he made friends with Friedrich Spielhagen , Adolf Stahr and his wife Fanny Lewald, as well as Emil Palleske . In 1850 he finished his studies with the state examination and doctorate and became a trial candidate at the grammar school in Greifswald and later teacher at the grammar school in Stargard and from 1872 to 1882 senior teacher at the Fürstin-Hedwig-Gymnasium in Neustettin . In 1882 he retired and moved to Berlin, where he wrote for the free hours , a supplement to the newspaper Die Tribüne , and was editor of the women's magazine Der Bazar . Ziemssen was a member of the Berlin Press Association and was the treasurer of the German Schiller Foundation .
