The Aviation Ordinance, abbreviated LuftVO, describes in detail the rules for pilots and the operation of any aircraft in Germany.

With the introduction of the European Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 923/2012 as part of the Standardized European Rules of the Air (SERA) on December 5, 2014, this takes precedence. The LuftVO was shortened on November 29, 2015 and has been a supplement to the SERA since then.

The LuftVO applies to all aircraft participating in air traffic , including model airplanes and drones ( UAVs ). In addition to the general rules for visual and instrument flight , it also contains, for example, regulations for radio communications at airports .

Regulations on aerobatics, tow plows, dealing with accidents, disruptions and safety-related incidents, and noise protection remain part of the new LuftVO. Most of the parts are additions to aspects that are not included in Regulation 923/2012.

history

The first “Ordinance on Air Traffic” dates from July 19, 1930 ( RGBl.  I, p. 363); a new version is dated August 21, 1936 (RGBl. I, p. 659). This ordinance was finally repealed with the LuftVO of September 16, 1963 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 652 ). This also applies to the “Ordinance on Aviation Rules” of June 4, 1953 ( BAnz. No. 104, pg. ) Issued by the “Civil Aviation Board (CAB)”, the aviation authority of the Allied High Commission , within the framework of the Occupation Statute for the Federal Republic of Germany . 1). This had previously replaced the “Air Traffic Regulations” of May 4, 1951 (BAnz. No. 84, p. 1), which had also been ordered by the “CAB”.
