Luigi Pellizzo (born February 26, 1860 in Faedis ; † August 14, 1936 ) was Bishop of Padua from 1906 to 1923 .

Life

Pellizzo was of rural origin and studied at the seminary of Udine and at the Pontifical Gregorian University . On June 7, 1884, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Udine. He worked as a lecturer at the seminar there and became its rector in 1899.

During this time he acquired the reputation of an energetic and energetic man, so that Pope Pius X appointed him Bishop of Padua on July 27, 1906 on the recommendation of the Udines Archbishop Pietro Zamburlini . The episcopal ordination received his Zamburlini on 19 August of that year, co-consecrators were Andrea Caron , Coadjutor Bishop of Ceneda , and Antonio Bassani , Coadjutor Bishop of Chioggia . Pellizzo paid particular attention to improving the living conditions of the rural population and the workers in his diocese. Often he was politically left of the socialists. From 1912 to 1913 he was also Apostolic Administrator of the Adriatic Diocese . After the end of the First World War in 1918, he intensified pastoral work in the diocese of Padua.

Pellizzo was relieved of his duties as Bishop of Padua on March 24, 1923 and was replaced by Pope Pius XI. appointed treasurer of the cathedral building works of St. Peter . He died in August 1936 and was buried in his hometown of Faedis.
