Luigi Pisani

Luigi Pisani (* 1522 in Venice ; † June 3, 1570 ibid) was an Italian cardinal and bishop of Padua . His name is also given as Luigi Pisano , Alvise Pisani or Aloisius Pisano .

Life

As the eldest of the eight children of Giovanni Pisani, ambassador of the Republic of Venice in France, and his wife Benedetta Gritti, sister of Doge Andrea Gritti , Luigi Pisani belonged to the patriciate of the Serenissima . He was also a nephew of Cardinal Francesco Pisani , who decisively promoted his ecclesiastical career.

Luigi Pisani was elected Bishop of Padua in 1555. From 1562 to 1563 he took part in the Council of Trent .

Pope Pius IV created him in the consistory of March 12, 1565 as cardinal priest . Luigi Pisani was a participant in the conclave 1565–1566 , which Pope Pius V elected. He received the cardinal's hat and the titular church of San Vitale on February 8, 1566. On June 2, 1568 he moved to the titular church of San Marco .

Luigi Pisani died in Venice in 1570 and was buried in the local church of Santa Maria delle Grazie .
