Luigi "Gigi" Riccio (born December 28, 1977 in Naples , Italy ) is a former Italian football player and current coach . He is currently assistant trainer to Gennaro Gattuso at SSC Napoli .

Career

As a player

Riccio began his professional career at Giarre FC , which he left after just a year to join AC Perugia . But there he stayed for three years without use in Serie A and B . In 1997 he moved to Scotland for the Glasgow Rangers . After only one assignment in a year, he finished the chapter and moved to KSK Beveren in Belgium . But even there he played only irregularly and left the club again after only one year.

Riccio returned to Italy and played a total of 65 games for AC Pistoiese , Ternana Calcio and AC Ancona in three years. In 2002 he moved to relegated to Serie B club Piacenza Calcio . He remained loyal to this for seven years and even became captain of the team. In total, he completed 252 games for Piacenza and scored 19 goals. At the end of his career, Riccio joined the US Sassuolo Calcio again in 2009 and played actively until 2011.

As a trainer

In 2012 Riccio became assistant coach at FC Sion . Riccio also remained assistant coach under Gennaro Gattuso , so that he moved to US Palermo in June . After Gattuso was dismissed as head coach after just a few weeks, Riccio remained under his successor Giuseppe Iachini as an assistant at Palermo.

From summer 2014 he worked again as assistant coach under Gattuso, initially for six months with the Cypriot first division club OFI Crete , from August 2015 for two years with AC Pisa , then briefly with the youth team of AC Milan and since November 2017 as co- Coach of the Milan professional team. In 2019 Gattuso left Milan together with his coaching team . Gattuso's and Riccio's employment at SSC Napoli followed in December 2019 .
