Luigi Rizzo
Luigi Rizzo , Count of Grado and Premuda (born October 8, 1887 in Milazzo , † June 27, 1951 in Rome ) was an Italian naval officer.
Life
After his training at the Naval Academy in Livorno , he became a lieutenant at sea in 1912. He took part in the First World War. As the commander of motor torpedo boats ( Italian Motoscafo Armato Silurante abbreviated MAS ) he carried out some spectacular actions. In December 1917 he sank the Austrian ship of the line of the Monarch class , Vienna , off Trieste , and the battleship Szent István near Premuda on June 10, 1918 . For this achievement he received the gold medal for bravery .
In 1919 he took part in Gabriele D'Annunzio's March on Fiume . In 1920 he left the Italian Navy as a frigate captain and worked for shipping companies and shipyards . Under King Victor Emmanuel III. he was ennobled and received the title of Conte di Grado e Premuda . In 1943 he was deported to Germany with his daughter Maria for acts of sabotage . a. Arrested at the Hotel Ifen in Hirschegg .
Rizzo died in 1951 after a serious illness.
