Princess Luise of Baden

Luise Amelie Stephanie von Baden (born June 5, 1811 in Schwetzingen ; † July 19, 1854 in Karlsruhe ) was a Baden princess and the first child of Grand Duke Karl von Baden and Stéphanie de Beauharnais , an adopted daughter of Napoléon Bonaparte .

Life

Her parents' marriage in 1806 was politically motivated and was not very happy. While Stephanie was in Mannheim , Karl celebrated orgies with his uncle Ludwig in Karlsruhe. Stephanie's adoptive father, Napoléon Bonaparte, was very angry about the situation at the Baden court, as he had created the new great Baden in the first place . Karl Friedrich , the ruling Grand Duke of Baden and Luise's great-grandfather, was asked to ban Ludwig, his youngest son from his first marriage, from the royal seat. This was of little help to Luise's parents; they only got closer after a summer stay in Baden-Baden in 1810; Luise was born in 1811. In the same year her father became the second Grand Duke of Baden.

On November 9, 1830, she married the former Crown Prince of Sweden, her cousin Gustav von Holstein-Gottorp , in Karlsruhe. Gustav was active in the imperial military of Austria; the couple lived in Schönbrunn Palace . The marriage ended in divorce in 1844.

Children from marriage:

She died on July 19, 1854 and was brought to Sigmaringen on July 26 , where her sister Josephine von Baden was then living. There she was buried in the princely crypt.
