Luise Westkirch

Luise Westkirch (born July 8, 1853 in Amsterdam , † July 11, 1941 in Munich ) was a German writer.

Life

She was born to German parents in Amsterdam, where her father, Johann Rudolph Westkirch, ran a large cloth business. In 1856 she returned to Germany with her parents and lived in Schloss Kleinniedesheim , a property of her father in the Bavarian Palatinate . In the novella The Mayor of Immelheim , events in Kleinniedesheim are described. After the early death of their father, the family moved to Mainz in 1861 and later to Wiesbaden . Here Luise Westkirch attended schools, in Wiesbaden she trained as a teacher and passed the teacher examination there. From 1872 on she was a teacher in Hanover and also devoted herself to work as a writer. Her first novel was published in the family magazine Daheim . She worked for the leading entertainment magazines of her time, e.g. B. North and South , the German Review and the Gazebo . As the author of around 50 short stories and novels, she was active as a writer for over 60 years and reached a wide readership. Her work includes women's novels , socially critical works, homeland novels , detective novels and historical-patriotic novels.

She was awarded the honorary prize of the Wiener Allgemeine Zeitung for her novella The Red Scarf .
