Lukas Geniušas (born July 1, 1990 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Lithuanian - Russian pianist.

Life

Geniušas learned to play the piano from the age of five and entered the Frédéric Chopin Academy of Music in Moscow in 1996. At the Moscow Conservatory he studied piano with Vera Vasilievna Gornostajewa . In 2004 he received a scholarship from the M. Rostropovich Foundation. Since 1996 he has performed internationally with various orchestras and gives solo concerts.

Tchaikovsky competition

Lukas Geniušas won second place at the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015 . In the second round he played Etudes by Chopin (Op. 10, nr. 3-6), the first sonata, Op. 1 by Brahms and the seventh sonata , op.83 by Prokofiev . In the final, he was the only participant to play Tchaikovsky's second piano concerto . As a second concert he played Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto .

family

Geniuša's father is the Lithuanian pianist Petras Geniušas , his mother Ksenija Knorre is a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. His grandmother was the Russian pianist Vera Wassiljewna Gornostajewa.
