The Lukaskirche is the Protestant parish church of Züttlingen , a district of Möckmühl in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg .

history

Züttlingen, where the church and parish have been documented since 1325, has been churchly supplied from the neighboring Assumstadt since the 16th century . After the church in Assumstadt was demolished in 1795 due to dilapidation, the services took place again in the old Züttlinger church in the local cemetery, until this too was largely demolished in 1844 due to dilapidation. The preserved choir of the old church was later converted into the burial chapel of the Barons von Ellrichshausen .

The church situation in Züttlingen was unsatisfactory for a long time because of the dilapidated and finally demolished old churches in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Although the knighthood had already called for a collection for a new church in the 18th century, other building projects such as the rectory built in 1766 and the Assumstadt Castle built in 1769 had priority. For the new construction of the Lukas Church in the middle of the 19th century, long negotiations were necessary until its financing was secured. The barons of Ellrichshausen gave 1500 guilders, Major General Franz Karl von Troyff at Domeneck Castle gave 500 guilders, 200 guilders came from the sugar factory in Züttlingen and Württemberg made a state contribution of 1000 guilders.

According to plans by Louis de Millas , what is now St. Luke 's Church was built in the neo-Romanesque arched style by craftsmen from the surrounding areas east of the old town center in 1856/57 . The construction costs amounted to 27,340 guilders, the consecration of the church took place on November 15, 1857. De Millas promised the building a lifetime of 450 years.

While the church was being built, a tragic accident occurred when a young bricklayer sustained fatal brain injuries when he fell from scaffolding on November 6, 1856.

On the occasion of the church's 100th birthday, which was celebrated on June 29, 1958, the church was renovated and new stained glass windows were added. In 1969/72 and 1992 renewed renovations followed.

description

The main entrance to the church is through the base of the retracted tower in the west. The nave, with five window axes on both sides, extends to the east and is closed on the eastern gable side by a triumphal arch that opens to the polygonal choir , which is raised by three steps .

The original bell in the church tower consisted of three bells. One of the old bells in the churches in Assumstadt and Züttlingen was still in original use, the other two bells were cast from the old bell material in the Bachert bell foundry in Kochendorf ( Bad Friedrichshall ).

Individual evidence

  1. On the website of the municipality it says that the glass windows were replaced in 1965. However, they are already mentioned in the Neuenstadt home book of 1959, where it is said that the windows were replaced on the occasion of the renovation for the 100th anniversary celebration in 1958.
