Luke Caley Charteris (born March 9, 1983 in Camborne , Cornwall , England ) is a former Welsh rugby union player who played in the second row . He was active for the Newport Gwent Dragons , USA Perpignan , Racing 92 and Bath Rugby as well as the Welsh national team . With his height of 2.06 m, he was a valuable player , especially in the alley .

Charteris was born in England but grew up in Wales. He began his career in Newport in 2003. He made his first national team appearance in November 2004 when he lost to South Africa . He had previously played for the country's U19 and U21 teams. In the 2006/07 season he made the decisive attempt in the game against Rugby Calvisano for last place in the Heineken Cup .

In November 2007 Charteris returned to the national team after two years and was substituted on in the game against the newly crowned world champion South Africa. Under the new national coach Warren Gatland , he came to more opportunities, so he was used in four of five games of the Six Nations 2009 .

In 2012 he moved to France, where he first played for Perpignan and later for Racing. He moved to England in 2016 and played three seasons for Bath before ending his club career in 2019. Two years earlier, he had played his last international match at the Six Nations against France .
