Luke Dimech (born January 11, 1977 in Valletta ) is a former Maltese football player . He played for the Maltese national team .
Club career
His career began in the 1995/96 season with the Sliema Wanderers . This season was the same Maltese champion with the club. During his time in Sliema he was able to establish himself in the national team. In 2002 he went to Dublin to join the Shamrock Rovers , with whom he was able to move into the final of the Irish Cup . Just a year later he went back to Malta for FC Birkirkara . In the summer of 2003, however, he moved abroad again, this time to Mansfield Town in England . At the end of the 2004/05 season he left Mansfield Town and moved to Chester City within England . In the summer of 2006 he moved back to his home country, where he won his second Maltese championship title with his new club, FC Marsaxlokk . After just one season he went back to England at the beginning of the 2007/08 season, this time to Macclesfield Town . Since the 2008/09 season he was back in his home country with the champions of 2008, Valletta FC , under contract. In the following two years he reached the runner-up and the 2010 cup win twice.
In summer 2010 Dimech moved to AEK Larnaka in the Cypriot First Division . There he was a regular in defense. He finished the 2010/11 season with his team in fourth place and qualified for the Europa League . He moved into the group stage with his team. In the following season he could not repeat this success. After two seasons, he returned to Malta in the summer of 2012, where he signed on with FC Mosta . After half a year he moved to Valletta FC. There he was able to win the championship in 2013/14 . In 2015 he joined the Sliema Wanderers, where his career began. He ended his career in 2016.
National team career
On April 28, 1999 he made his debut for the Maltese national team in a home game against Iceland (1: 2) . Since then, he has completed 78 international matches in which he was able to score a goal.
