Francis Lumsden Hare (born October 17, 1874 or April 27, 1875 in Tipperary , Munster , Ireland , † August 28, 1964 in Beverly Hills , California , United States ) was an Irish film and stage actor who worked in the United States for decades .

Life

Lumsden Hare immigrated to the United States from Ireland at a young age . On Broadway in New York , he starred from 1900 to 1942 in more than 35 pieces. On the side he also worked as a producer or director of some pieces. He made his film debut in 1916, and around 140 other films and a few television appearances were to follow over the next few decades. In the first years of his film career, he mainly played leading roles, from the 1920s he switched to supporting roles. Mostly he embodied respectable Britons, for example officers, aristocrats, doctors or priests. It was used particularly often in literary films or period films. His best-known films include Uprising in Sidi Hakim , Rebecca , Northwest Passage and The Fate of Irene Forsyte . From the 1940s, his film appearances were often limited to a few seconds, but Hare remained active as a film and television actor until 1961.

Lumsden Hare died in 1964 at the age of 89. His first marriage was to Frances Rutledge, and from another marriage to Selene Johnson there was a daughter named Nora.
