The entire course of the Lutter is located in the urban area of Göttingen. It rises in the southern part of the Göttingen Forest , from where it flows in a predominantly north-westerly direction through Herberhausen and finally parallel to federal road 27 to Weende . There it follows the B 27 for a good part of the way, which bears the name “An der Lutter” there, before it - sometimes thrown out - crosses under several streets and railway lines. It flows into the Leine coming from the south in the northwest part of the city north of a sewage treatment plant .
