Ly Seppel
Ly Seppel (born April 30, 1943 in Haapsalu ) is an Estonian poet and translator .
Life
Ly Seppel was born in the western Estonian town of Haapsalu on the Baltic coast . She completed her studies in Estonian Philology at Tartu State University (TRÜ) in 1967 . Seppel studied Turkish in Baku and Moscow . Since 1974 she has lived as a freelance writer in Rapla, Central Estonia .
Later she also studied psychotherapy at the Gestalt Institute of Scandinavia in Holbæk, Denmark . She works as a psychologist and psychotherapist.
Author
Seppel's literary debut took place in 1965 as a member of the so-called " Cassette Generation " ( Kassetipõlvkond ), a loose association of Estonian writers. In the thaw of the Khrushchev period between 1962 and 1968, the literary circle published a total of five collections of poetry and prose as " cassettes ". Ly Seppel's poems from 1960 to 1964 appeared in the third cassette under the title Igal hommikul avan peo .
Seppel is best known in Estonia for her prose for children and her poems. In addition, she has acted as a poetry translator from various Turkic languages (Turkish, Azerbaijani , Uzbek , Kazakh , Tatar and Turkmen ), Russian and Finnish . In 1984 she and her husband translated a selection of stories from the Arabian Nights into Estonian from Russian .

Private life
Ly Seppel married the Estonian poet Andres Ehin in 1975 . The couple has three daughters. The best known is the poet Kristiina Ehin (* 1977).
