Lyman ( Ukrainian Лиман ; Russian Лиман Liman ) is a village in the center of the Ukrainian Oblast Kharkiv with about 4100 inhabitants (2001).
Lyman is the only village of the same name, 75.621 km² large district council in the southeast of Smijiw Rajon .
The village is located on the shores of Lake Lyman in the vicinity of the urban-type Sloboschanske settlement, 17 km southeast of the Smiyiv district center and 54 km south of the Kharkiv oblast center . The regional road P-78 runs through the village .
The village was founded in the 1680s and in 1683 had only 23 inhabitants. At the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th century, the village was exposed to several attacks by Crimean Tatars , but grew rapidly due to its good geographical location, despite these attacks, and in 1765 already had 3109 inhabitants.
