Lyman R. Casey

Lyman Rufus Casey (* 6. May 1837 in York , Livingston County , New York ; †  26. January 1914 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Republican Party , of the State of North Dakota in the US Senate represented.

Casey, originally from New York State, moved with his parents to Ypsilanti , Michigan, in 1853 . After completing his school education, he worked as a building materials dealer for many years. In 1882 he settled in Carrington in the Dakota Territory and became a rancher there. He served as chairman of the state irrigation committee of North Dakota and held the county commissioner function in Foster County, which was comparable to the county commissioner .

After recording of North Dakota as a state in the United States Casey was chosen for the Republicans in the US Senate. His tenure there began on November 25, 1889; on March 3, 1893, he resigned from Congress after he had unsuccessfully applied for re-nomination by his party. During his tenure in the Senate, he was Chairman of the Railway Committee.

As a result, he first moved to New York City before returning to Washington, where he died in 1914.
