Lynbrook is a village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County , New York , USA . At the 2010 census there were 19,427 residents. According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has an area of ​​2.01 square miles (5.2 km²).

Lynbrook is part of New York State's 4th Congressional District , currently represented by Democrat Carolyn McCarthy . On a state basis, Lynbrook falls into the 9th constituency of the New York Senate and the 14th constituency of the State Assembly. The Long Island Rail Road connects Lynbrook with Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City .

history

The area around what is now Lynbrook was originally called Bloomfield. It was later named Pearsall's Corners after Pearsall's General Store . It became a well-known stagecoach stop for travelers from New York City to Long Island . The village was incorporated in 1911. The name Lynbrook was derived from a syllable breakdown of Brooklyn and pays homage to the original home of many of the residents who moved there. It is often referred to as Lynbrook, USA because there is no other place in the United States with the same name. There has been a police station since 1911, the head of the department today is Joseph Neve. Lynbrook has had a fire department since 1879 .
