MØL ( Danish for moth ) is a Blackgaze band from Aarhus founded in 2013 .

history

MØL was founded in 2013 in the Danish city of Aarhus and after two changes in 2016 consists of singer Kim Song Sternkopf, the two guitarists Nicolai Hansen and Frederik Lippert as well as bassist Holger Rumph-Frost and drummer Ken Klejs. Singer Sternkopf worked as a concert photographer before joining MØL and photographed the band at their first concert. Nicolai Hansen and Ken Klejs previously played together in the shoegaze / dream pop band Antennas to Nowhere .

In the following year, a demo EP named after the band was released on the Russian underground label Cvlminis , a subsidiary of Rigorism Production. Another EP followed in November 2015 with II . After the band a recording contract with Holy Roar Records had signed the band in April 2018 released their debut album Jord , which in the United States on Deathwish Inc. has been published.

At the end of May 2018, the band played four concerts in the UK to celebrate the release of their debut album. In the summer the band played as a replacement for Skindred at the Danish Copenhell , which also affected Zeal & Ardor's performance. Between November 1 and 21, 2018, the group toured several countries in Central Europe as the opening act for the American post-black metal band Ghost Bath . In autumn 2019 the band toured Europe as the opening act for the American technical death metal band Rivers of Nihil .

style

MØL take up the brutality of Black Metal in their music and mix it with the warmth of Shoegaze . Compared to other representatives of Blackgaze such as Alcest or Deafheaven , who usually let their songs ramble over ten minutes, the musicians work with significantly shorter playing times in their songs. Compared to other representatives of the genre, the band works with much more qualitative, ethereal and dreamy elements. This amalgamation of hard riffings and dreamy sound structures is described as a bastard of A Perfect Circle and Darkthrone . The music is described as "Blackgaze with broad-walled post-rock and a believably conveyed hardcore rage". The songs have catchy tunes without appearing calculable. Metalcore influences are also recognized.

The lyrics are mostly written in English , with two of the band's pieces being in Danish .
