Theodor Fontane already described the scenic location , in his hikes through the Mark Brandenburg he writes: “ ... and after a half-hour walk we reach a moderate hill, from which we can overlook two lakes and two villages:“ Groeben ”and“ Siethen ”. A Brandenburg idyll. But also a piece of Brandenburg history. "

Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park

Fields, orchards , wet meadows , small hills, flocks of sheep, water mills and natural ash trees all together with a small-scale change of biotopes in the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park form a cultural landscape . The lake belongs to a chain of lakes with the other links Gröbener See , Grössinsee and Schiaßer See . The inland lakes lie across the Nuthe lowlands in a former glacial drainage channel and are the remains of former meltwater lakes. The adjacent, nutrient-rich Lake Gröben covers around 24 hectares and is bordered by a bank zone with a wide belt of reeds and quarries, isolated pine forests and species-rich wet meadows. Nordic wild geese and cranes rest on the lakes in spring and autumn . Ospreys have their feeding ground here and you can also find cormorants , herons and, occasionally, sea eagles .
