Méguillaume is a former commune in the Orne department in France . From 1822 Méguillaume was part of the municipality of Chênedouit , which in 2016 became part of the new municipality of Putanges-le-Lac .
development
The community was founded in 1793 during the French Revolution and at that time had 138 residents. It belonged to the canton of Putange and was first named Meguillaume before the spelling was changed to Méguillaume in 1801 . Despite a slight increase in population in the following years, the municipality was incorporated into Chênedouit together with Le Repas in 1822 .
Local church
The church of Méguillaume was built in the 13th century as a successor to an even older church, which was probably built at the time of William the Conqueror . It is consecrated to Saint Sebastian and was created in its original form on the initiative of a southern French monk who made a pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Michel . In addition to the namesake of the church, St. Stapinus , who is made responsible for the milk delivery of the cows, and Mamertus play a major role.
Inside the building there is, among other things, a medieval baptismal font , which is constructed in an octagonal shape, which is supposed to symbolize the transition from earth to heaven. There is a cemetery around the church.
