Māris Veršakovs (born January 13, 1986 in Dobele , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian handball player . Veršakovs is 1.92 m tall and mostly plays in the middle back.

Club career

Māris Veršakovs started playing handball in his hometown; later he came to the youth boarding school of ASK Riga , where he made his debut in the first Latvian league in 2003. With his team he won the Latvian championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and was voted Latvia's Player of the Year twice. Due to his good performance, he recommended himself for a commitment abroad; In 2007 he was signed by the German second division club SG Achim / Baden. At Lower Saxony, he became a top performer, so that he came into the focus of first division clubs. For the 2008/09 season he switched to TUSEM Essen for a short time , where he succeeded Dávid Katzirz . He came to VfL Edewecht through ASV Hamm in January 2010 .

In 2011 he joined the third division club SV Beckdorf . In the 2012/13 season he was the best thrower of all seasons of the 3rd division with 250 goals. In summer 2016 he moved to league competitor HSG Nord HU . From the 2017/18 season he was under contract with third division team TGS Pforzheim . In summer 2019 he joined the Latvian club Tenax Dobele.
