Măgura (Hungarian Magura ) is a village in Brașov County ( Romania ). It is part of the Moieciu municipality .
location
Măgura is located in the extreme south-east of Transylvania . It is located on the east side of the Piatra Craiului Mountains , about six kilometers west of Bran Castle ( Törzburg ).
history
The region above the Törzburg and below the Törzburger Pass - an important Carpathian crossing - was probably settled around the end of the 17th century. The place Măgura was first mentioned in 1713. It was a village of Romanian farmers and cattle herders.
After Măgura belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary , the Principality of Transylvania and Austria-Hungary until the end of the First World War , it has been part of the state of Romania since then.
population
Since the first records, the place has been shown as predominantly inhabited by Romanians . In 1850, 494 inhabitants - all Romanians - were registered. Since the peak in 1966 (832 people) the population has decreased. In 1992 there were still 691 residents.
traffic
Măgura is located a few kilometers off the pass road between Braşov and Piteşti , which corresponds to the European route 574 and from which a road to Măgura branches off in the municipality of Moieciu (de Jos). Another road leads from the town of Zărneşti to Măgura.
In Moieciu de Jos there are bus connections to Brașov. A few buses run from Măgura itself to Zărneşti. The nearest train station is about five kilometers away on the Brașov – Zărneşti railway in Zărneşti.
Attractions
Măgura is the starting point for hikes in the Piatra Craiului Mountains. There are several places to stay overnight. Not far from the village is the Peştera Liliecilor bat cave .
