MATILAN

MATILAN (also in Hebrew יחידת מתיל"ן, Jehidat Matilan ) is a special unit of the Israeli border police . The name Matilan is an acronym for the Israeli first letters of their areas of responsibility, namely intelligence, observation, interception and mobile warfare. The Matilan unit was established in 1996. The last unit in operation in the Jerusalem region (Matilan Otef Yerushalayim) was dissolved in 2011, and the functions of the unit were transferred to JAMAS . The unit was rebuilt in 2017 as part of the Magav Tactical Brigade.

Its aim is the fight against terrorism and the fight against crime. The unit is mainly active at close range and deals with tactical reconnaissance and ambush prevention - both terrorist and criminal. This includes the timely detection of suicide bombers with the help of electronic devices and specially trained service dogs .
