The Nachshon Unity ( Hebrew יחידת נחשון, also Nahshon) is the main intervention and promotion center of the Israeli prison service ( Israel Prison Service , IPS, Hebrew שירות בתי הסוהר, Sherut Batei HaSohar) and deals with searches, the elimination of hazards and the protection of IPS employees.

The Nachschon unit is the operative arm of the IPS. The unit was established in 1973 and is used for prisoner observation, operations and security. The tasks of the unit include escorting detainees between detention centers. The unit assists in the search for weapons, drugs, notes, explosives, cell phones, SIM cards and other aids in detention centers for possible terrorist attacks or attempted outbreaks . The unit also ensures the safety of prison staff.

Prisoners are transferred to another country by the Nachshon unit within the framework of international extradition treaties or accompanied to a court hearing . The unit ensures the safety of prisoners in the courtroom , accompanies dangerous prisoners on their home visits or when they have to leave the prison for medical treatment. Members of the Nachshon unit accompany around 1,800 prisoners, criminals and terrorists in the unit's vehicles every day , which corresponds to an annual number of 390,000 prisoners. The unit has hundreds of specially developed vehicles for transporting prisoners. The Nachshon unit is divided into 3 brigades and is under the command of the unit's headquarters.
