MC Breed
MC Breed , real name Eric Breed (born June 12, 1971 in Flint , Michigan , † November 22, 2008 in Ypsilanti , Michigan), was an American rapper . He worked with rappers Too Short , The DOC , Warren G and Tupac Shakur , among others . Breed died of kidney failure on November 22, 2008 .
Life
Breed is known as the first commercially successful rapper from the American Midwest. MC Breed's first album was released with the rap group DFC and was titled MC Breed & DFC . It was released through the record company SDEG Records.
1992 appeared as MC Breed's solo debut, the album 20 Below , then he released The New Breed in 1993 . This was followed by an extensive discography and a long career that was successful at times but never took him into the mainstream. His highest placement in the US charts came in 1994 with the album Funkafied , which reached number 106 on the Billboard 200 chart . During his career, he joined various rap scenes. At the beginning of his career, he and DFC were relatively independent because the group was one of the earliest rap groups from the Midwest. He later joined the West Coast hip-hop scene. He was a friend of the West Coast rapper Too Short . For his 1995 album Big Baller , he worked with Dirty South Scene.
In 1996 and 1997, To Da Beat Ch'all and Flatline were released on the Wrap Records label. Then the contract was fulfilled and MC Breed switched to Power Records (Distribution: Roadrunner Records ), where he released the album Its All Good in 1999. In the same year the compilation 2 for the Show was released , which brought together his collaborations with artists such as 2Pac and Too Short.
In 2000 he starred in the movie Dollar and participated in the soundtrack. In the same year, the best-of album The Thugz, Vol. 1 , was released, on which Too Short, Richie Rich and Bootleg from The Dayron Family are also represented. He then left Power Records. His next album The Fharmacist was released on the independent label Fharmacy Records, which ceased to exist relatively quickly. His album, which again featured Bootleg by the Dayton Family, actually remained the label's only release.
In 2004 he released his last album, The New Prescription , which was released through Urban Music Zone Entertainment, a sub-label of Psychopathic Records .
On May 11, 2006, Breed was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison for failing to pay $ 200,000 in alimony. On April 2, 2008, Breed was arrested again in Flint, Michigan for failing to pay child support. His bail was set at $ 18,000.
On September 5, 2008, the rapper was hospitalized and ventilated there after suffering kidney failure during a basketball game. Breed died in his sleep on November 22, 2008. A planned documentary and a new album were in the making at the time of his death but were no longer completed.
