Life

Lewis starred in films such as Death Hunt ( Death Hunt ) and Hard Times ( A Hard Times ) on the side of Charles Bronson before in the early 1980s started his own years as a drama teacher. Since then he has been one of the most sought-after acting coaches in Hollywood . His book Your film acting career , which has only been published in English so far, is considered the bible for budding actors , especially in the American film industry . As a member of the Conservatory - Committee of the Screen Actors Guild , the American actor-powerful union , he helped already during the 1970s to develop their training programs. He is now only a visiting professor for the Screen Actors Guild.

In addition to his own drama school in Santa Monica , he also leads workshops for the Sat.1 talent class and the international film school in Cologne .

Lewis is married to cartoonist Rosemary R. Lewis.

Teaching

Lewis' workshops deal with the actor's direct work with the camera. He mainly deals with the effect on the screen, less classic acting lessons such as method acting or the Meisner technique . The reactions to actions and events are in the foreground with Lewis, even before the experience of the actor. He essentially breaks the craft of representation down to five points:

  1. I want : What is the character's goal?
  2. I feel : What feelings does the character have?
  3. fellow actor : How does the actor react to his fellow actor?
  4. secondary focus : Is the figure absent with the thought?
  5. secret : Is the figure hiding something from its counterpart?
