My name is Nobody (original title: Il mio nome è Nessuno ) is a spaghetti western with some humorous elements by Tonino Valerii based on an idea by Sergio Leone . The Italian-German-French co-production dates from 1973.

action

In the American Southwest , the aging gunslinger Jack Beauregard has made many enemies. At the time of action (1899) he wants to embark for Europe without causing a stir , in order to retire there.

While he cleverly dodges the stalking of his enemies, who don't want to let him go so easily, he meets the weird rascal Nobody, one of his greatest admirers. Nobody is determined to give his idol a brilliant, historic exit, and skillfully arranges his confrontation with the "Wild Horde", a strong gang of 150 outlaws.

Beauregard is left with no choice, so he actually goes down in history with one final heroic act - he defeats the gang alone by shooting the riders' dynamite-filled saddlebags. In order to evade her revenge, Beauregard can then be shot by Nobody in a media-effective staged duel for sham, whereby Nobody becomes a gunslinger and Beauregard can look forward to an undisturbed retirement.

Trivia

  • The idea for the film came from Sergio Leone, who was also involved in the film as a co-director alongside Tonino Valerii and as a producer. For the project, he managed to win Henry Fonda as a partner of Terence Hill . The film music was composed by Ennio Morricone .
  • The film title quotes the Odyssey : Odysseus outwits Polyphemus by revealing himself as "nobody". On Jack Beauregard's supposed tombstone it says: “Nobody was faster on the draw”.
  • For the title The Wild Horde , Morricone arranged an excerpt from Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries .
  • In the sham duel you can hear a version of The man with the harmonica from the film Spiel mir das Lied von Tod , also by Ennio Morricone, as well as other pieces of music, but slightly changed, from western films in which Henry Fonda once took part.
  • In the famous duel scene in the saloon, Nobody slaps Don John ( Marc Mazza ) a total of 25. John has no chance of pulling, as Nobody strikes alternately, pulling the two weapons out of John's double holster and putting them back in at lightning speed.
  • In a scene in a cemetery, the name Sam Peckinpah can be read on a tombstone . He had previously refused to work with Leone.
  • In one scene, Nobody beats up his opponents with the help of a wooden rotating figure. This not only looks like Bud Spencer, she also gives Bud Spencer slaps in the face. At the end of the scene, Nobody thanks the wooden figure with "Thank you Karl". Obviously a tribute to Carlo Pedersoli, Bud Spencer.
  • The film was shot in the ghost town of Mogollon in the state of New Mexico .

Others

Vera Marzot was responsible for the costumes .

DVD release

The film was released together with Nobody is the Greatest in 2005 as a completely restored version on DVD in terms of image and sound . For the first time, it is a complete version with a complete image section and all the missing scenes. In Italy, a version was released on Blu-ray Disc in full 1080p resolution in April 2009 . However, this only contains the Italian soundtrack. Two years after Mein Name ist Nobody , the film Un Genio, Due Compari, Un Pollo , which was given the title Nobody is the Greatest by the German distributors , was released. Leone reverted to the Nobody character in this film, but moved the plot to the time of the Indian Wars and named the main role Joe Thanks . Based on the Nobody pun of the first film, the double meaning of the surname Thanks is played here, which is largely lost in the German dubbed version, so that for the German viewer the connection between the two films appears to be only established through the distribution title.

German version

The German dubbing was done by Rainer Brandt Filmproduktion, Berlin . Rainer Brandt was responsible for the script and dubbing .
Not least because of the German dialog inventions, the nobody films are still very popular today. The dialogues often deviate not insignificantly from the otherwise unadorned original dialogues. In a certain way, the German dialogue level develops a life of its own and a momentum of its own compared to the other filmic levels (plot, drama, camera work, costume / set and music), which are already very original.
