MR 73 - Till Death Deliver You is a French crime film directed by Olivier Marchal from 2008.
action
Louis Schneider is a detective with the homicide squad in Marseille . He has been a broken man since a serious accident in which his daughter died and his wife was so badly injured that she has been in a vegetative state ever since. As a heavy alcoholic, he rarely finds his way back to his former form. His colleagues cover him, but he is forcibly transferred to night duty when, in a completely drunk state, he forces the driver of a bus at gunpoint to change course in order to be taken home. At the time, Schneider is investigating a series of murders in which three women have already fallen victim. The women were always brutally murdered after the perpetrator had raped them. The 64-year-old Vera Rosenbaum becomes the perpetrator's fourth victim; Schneider finds a cat in her apartment that he takes in.
While Schneider has advocates among his colleagues in Georges and the younger Marie, competitor Kovalski is his mortal enemy. When he made allusions to Schneider's wife during the argument, the two fight. The picture appears in the newspaper and falls into the hands of young Justine. In Schneider she recognizes the policeman who was once active at the scene of her parents' murder. Justine's parents fell into the hands of the brutal Charles Subra 25 years ago, who is now supposed to be converted to Christianity and who is repentant about to be released early from prison. Justine goes to Schneider, who tells her details of the crime scene.
Although Schneider is no longer allowed to work in the case of feminicide, he continues to investigate. He finds out that all the victims had in common that they owned a pet, can establish a connection to the luxury animal boarding house Chenil du Sud and identify the errand boy from Pension Mathias as the perpetrator through a DNA comparison. In order not to have to leave the success of the investigation to Kovalski, Schneider steals the DNA report and only lets Georges know about his findings. The two of them try to arrest Mathias, but he overpowers both police officers; as a result, he releases a dog who injures Georges so badly that he dies shortly afterwards. While trying to strangle Schneider, Mathias is shot by him. It turns out, however, that Mathias is the son of a high-ranking police officer; Kovalski therefore ensures that the case is covered up. When Schneider tries to prepare a new DNA sample with Marie's help, he is arrested.
After his release from prison, Schneider learns that Justine has looked after his apartment in his absence and has taken the cat into his home. Schneider also learns from her that Subra has since been dismissed for good conduct; the murder of his roommate went unpunished because Kovalski believed in the faked suicide. When Justine realizes that Subra was in her house, Schneider makes sure that she moves in with her sister. Marie tells him the current whereabouts of Subra. He fetches a Manurhin MR73 revolver from George's house, which he had received as a present from a former superior and which he had cleaned once in Schneider's presence; then he leaves Marie a farewell letter. While Justine gives birth to a son in a distant hospital, Schneider first kills Kovalski and then shoots Subra and his wife before killing himself. Marie tries in vain to find and stop him in time. Justine, in turn, calls her healthy boy Louis.
