history

Founding time

When the association was founded, Vorsfelde was a small town with around 1500 inhabitants. The founding meeting took place on August 8, 1862 in the rifle house in Vorsfelde with the participation of 12 citizens. At a second meeting on September 19, 1862, Wilhelm Grete, a son of Vorfeld's mayor Carl Grete , was elected chairman. In 1863 the club had 13 members and seven young people. That year eight gymnasts took part in the Braunschweig District Gymnastics Festival and the club's chairman Wilhelm Grete took part in the 3rd General German Gymnastics Festival in Leipzig . Club members also took part in the Elm mountain gymnastics festival . After a gymnastics show in Vorsfelde in 1865, 23 boys joined the club as gymnasts. In 1870 the association had 11 members and in 1874 20 members. The gymnastics exercises took place in summer on a gymnasium and in winter in a restaurant or in the rifle house. In 1897, 11 club members resigned and founded the New MTV . The split was based on an internal class organization of the workforce, as numerous postal and railway workers had moved here at the time.

20th century

In 1908 a women's department was founded in the women's gymnastics association, to which 20 women belonged. In 1913 the association celebrated its 50th foundation festival. Before the First World War , in 1914 the association had almost 100 members and around 35 boys serving as co-gymnasts. During the war, in which 15 club members had died, the sporting activities largely ceased.

During the National Socialist era , the MTV had almost 70 members in 1933. When the New MTV was dissolved as a workers gymnastics club in the course of the Gleichschaltung in 1933, its members joined the MTV. In 1936, the two youth departments of the association were dissolved, as all youth members of the association had joined the Hitler Youth or the Association of German Girls . During the Second World War , sporting activities were continued at a low level, as more than half of the male members were drafted for military service. After the war, the British military government banned the association from all club activities. She declined to continue the gymnastics club founded in 1862, but advocated its re-establishment. This took place on February 16, 1946, omitting the addition of 1862. At the time, the association had 32 men and 60 women. The gymnastics took place in a restaurant. After the old town school was built in 1955, the club was able to use a gym for the first time . After the inauguration of the Drömling Stadium in 1958, the club had another sports facility available. In the 1970s, the association became a large association with 1000 members in 1974. In 1987, when the association was 125, there were 2000 members.

21st century

In 1999, the construction of a club center with its own sports facility and head office began in Vorsfelde, which resulted in costs of 2.1 million DM. In 2004 the association had 4000 members. In 2006 the club center was expanded for one million euros.

sports

The association consists of the following 27 departments:

MTV Vorsfelde handball

The handball department MTV Vorsfelde Handball , founded in 1972, is now one of the club's most successful. Every year, numerous youth teams fight for points at regional and state level and thus form the cornerstone of successful youth work in the club. With 4 senior teams (2 men and 2 women’s teams) the adult area is also adequately covered.

The figurehead is the 1st men's team, which has played successfully in the Lower Saxony upper league since it was promoted again. The team's greatest success is the championship of the Lower Saxony Oberliga in the 2012/2013 season and the associated promotion to the 3rd division . This was followed by the descent. Since then, the team and the environment has changed steadily and one tries again to take the step towards the 3rd division.

Awards

By winning the championship of the Lower Saxony Oberliga in 2012/13 , the men's team secured their first promotion to the 3rd division for the 2013/14 season , but had to be relegated directly as table fifteenth.
