Małgorzata Braunek (born January 30, 1947 in Szamotuły , † June 23, 2014 in Warsaw ) was a Polish actress .

Life

Małgorzata Braunek studied acting at the PWST State Drama School in Warsaw. She made her film debut as a student in 1967. She completed her degree in 1969. By this time she had already played leading roles in seven feature films and was one of the most popular young actresses of the time. She was only briefly at the theater. From 1971 to 1974 she was part of the ensemble of the Polish national theater Teatr Narodowy , where she only appeared in two productions by the then director Adam Hanuszkiewicz . During this time she was married to the film director Andrzej Żuławski and in 1971 had a son. The son Xawery Żuławski is now a film director like his father.

Małgorzata Braunek became a Zen Buddhist in the late 1970s and withdrew from the film business in 1980. Only at the end of the 1990s did she return to the acting profession for smaller roles. From 1994 Braunek headed the Polish section of the Kandzeon Buddhist Society . The vegetarian was also committed to animal welfare in Poland and campaigned for human rights in the People's Republic of China .

Małgorzata Braunek died of complications from cancer in June 2014 at the age of 67.
