Ma Kai

Ma Kai ( Chinese  馬凱  /  马凯 , Pinyin Mǎ Kǎi ; born June 1946 in Jinshan , Shanghai ) was elected in 2013 by the National People's Congress as one of the four vice premiers of the People's Republic of China . Previously, in 2003, Ma Kai was promoted to head of the National Development and Reform Commission . In 2008 he was appointed Deputy Minister with the task of overseeing the planning ministries.

Ma Kai has been a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party since 2002 , of which he has been a member since 1965. Since 2012 he has also been a member of the Central Leadership Circle of China, the Politburo of the Communist Party of China .

He is also active as a poet.

Life

Ma Kai was born in Shanghai and studied political economy at the Chinese People's University in Beijing .

Relation to Germany

Ma Kai visited the Engels House in Wuppertal in 2010 while on a trip to Germany . There he let museum director Eberhard Illner give him a four-hour lecture about the entrepreneur and communist philosopher Friedrich Engels . During this visit he promised the museum a statue of Engels . In 2014, a 3.85 meter high bronze statue of Engels was presented to the city fathers. The statue designed by Zeng Chenggang was ceremoniously unveiled on June 11, 2014.
