Ma Xiaoxu ( Chinese  马晓旭 , Pinyin Mǎ Xiǎoxù ; born June 5, 1988 ) is a Chinese soccer player . The striker played in the 2007 season for the Swedish top club Umeå IK , who were champions of Damallsvenskan that season. She is often compared to Sun Wen and Wayne Rooney in the media .

Career

Ma Xiaoxu only started her football career at Dalian Shide at the age of eleven. In 2003 she made her debut in the junior team and two years later she is in the Chinese senior team for the first time .

The year 2006 brought Ma the international breakthrough. In April she won the U-19 Asian Championship and was the top scorer with ten goals. One of the ten tournament goals was the 1-0 winning goal in the final against North Korea . This was followed by the Asian Cup , where Ma was again voted top scorer with five goals and the best player of the tournament. She was able to repeat this double triumph at the 2006 U-20 Women's World Cup in Russia .

At the end of 2006, Ma was named Asian Footballer of the Year. She was also named Asia's Youth Footballer of the Year . In February 2007 she signed a contract with the Swedish club Umeå IK . She is the first Chinese female footballer in the Swedish league .

She was part of the squad for the 2007 World Cup in her home country and was used in the four games, but could not score a goal. After the World Cup, she sustained a knee injury in a game against New Zealand, from which she had only recovered a month before the Olympic Games , which were also held in her home country . However, she was unable to take part in these due to a torn cruciate ligament that she suffered a few days before the games.

In 2010 she was part of the squad for the East Asian Women's Football Championship , in which China finished second and Ma scored a goal in three games. Three years later she came only to a brief appearance in a 2-0 draw against Japan .

In the FIFA list of players with at least 100 international matches published on January 7, 2011, it was led with 98 games. After that, at least 29 games were added, although line-ups are not available for all of the Chinese women's friendlies.

At the 2014 Asian Cup , she scored the 2-0 goal in the second group game in a 3-0 win against Myanmar two minutes after being substituted on. In the semifinals against Japan, she was substituted on in extra time. But she couldn't decide the game for the Chinese - on the contrary: the Japanese scored the winning goal in stoppage time to make it 2-1. The Chinese had already qualified for the World Cup in Canada when they reached the semi-finals .

Ma was then neither part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup nor the 2015 East Asian Cup. Under the new national coach Bruno Bini , however, she made two appearances in December against Italy and in Abby Wambach's farewell match , which China won 1-0. At the four-nation tournament in 2016 , she was at least used in the game against South Korea, where she scored the first goal to win 2-0. (No line-ups are available for the Games against Mexico and Vietnam.) She was then also in the squad for the AFC qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games , in which China qualified for the Games. She scored the 1: 1 in the last game - when the qualification was already determined - against the also already qualified Australians the 1-0 lead.
