Maarten Brekelmans (born February 24, 1992 in Tucson , Arizona ) is an American - Dutch ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2017 .

Career

Clubs

Maarten Brekelmans, who was born in the United States to Dutch parents, began his career as an ice hockey player with the Tilburg Trappers , for whom he already played in the youth department. At the age of 16 he was used in the second men's team in the Eerste Divisie . In the honor division he made his debut in the 2010/11 season , when he reached the playoff final with the Trappers, but lost with 1: 4 wins against HYS The Hague . With the team from North Brabant , he won the Dutch ice hockey cup in 2011, 2013 and 2015 and the Dutch championship title in 2014 and 2015 . In 2015 he moved with the club to the Oberliga Nord , the third highest German division, and was able to win the German Oberliga championship in the first year. Since 2018 he has been playing with the Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League .

International

Brekelmans took part with the Dutch team at the U-20 World Championships in 2011 and 2012 in Division II.

For the men's national team , he made his debut at the 2014 World Cup in Group B of Division I. In 2015 he also played with the Dutch in this class, but had to accept relegation to Division II with them for the first time since the division system was introduced. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
