The Macaulay River is a mountain river in the New Zealand Alps . It belongs to the Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand .

geography

The Macaulay River has its headwaters on the southwest flank of the 2133  m high East Sentinel . From there it flows between the Sibbald Range in the west and the Two Thumb Range in the east, directly southwards, before flowing slightly to the right into the branching river system of the Godley River . On the lower half of its route, the Macaulay River also branches off and forms an alpine river delta in its estuary.
