Macbeth is a German heavy metal band that was founded in Erfurt in 1985 .

history

Macbeth emerged as one of the first metal bands in the GDR . The first time the band performed without a permission to play. Shortly after the classification, the band changed vocalists, the original singer Tobias Nehmer had to leave and later founded the thrash metal band Rochus. Detlef Wittenburg, an experienced singer who had previously sung in cover bands, joined Macbeth as the new front man. The band played many concerts, including in the autumn of 1986 in the Erfurt city garden . At this concert, the police forbade the band from playing an encore. After the concert there were riots. The band was banned from playing, the tour truck's license was withdrawn and the lease for the rehearsal room was terminated. The drummer Frank “Fips Ascon” Fiebach switched to the band Blitzz , the bassist applied for an exit permit and the guitarist Michael Werner was drafted into the army.

Only in the spring of 1987 was there a full line-up again. With the requirement to rename themselves, the band finally continued under the name "Caiman". The singer Detlef Wittenburg was sentenced to more than a year in prison in the spring of 1988. From then on the band continued to play four of them. Guitarist Ralf Zeidler took over the vocals. An experiment with a new singer was given up after a few months. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall , the band was able to tour relatively unmolested. Detlef Wittenburg came out of prison in autumn 1989 and was offered the opportunity to join the band again. In the turmoil, the bassist and the drummer left the band for the west. With the support of the band Rochus, the band played their last two concerts. Detlef Wittenburg was also on stage at the penultimate concert in Erfurt. In December 1989, singer Detlef Wittenburg hanged himself in the Steigerwald near Erfurt. The band splits.

Then came the comeback in spring 1993. A first concert in Sondershausen was very successful. After several more concerts, the band soon realized that times had changed and they decided to work on new material. During this period of upheaval, the drummer died. He jumped from a high-rise in Frankfurt / Main. This section also came to an end with the drummer's funeral.

It was over a decade before Macbeth was seen live again for the first time. With old and new songs in their luggage they were able to build on old successes as support for In Extremo and The Bones . The debut long player is now available, after only old tapes made the rounds among fans to this day. On February 23, 2009, the band signed a recording deal with Massacre Records . On July 24th, 2009 the band released their first album on this label called Gotteskrieger .

In 2010 they won the "W: O: A Metal Masters" contest and thus received a slot at the Wacken Open Air . The band covered Herbert Roth's Rennsteig song for MDR . The reason for this was the 60th birthday of the "unofficial national anthem of Thuringia" . 2012 the third album was released Revenant .

style

Macbeth plays pretty slow heavy metal with a touch of doom metal . “You can hear dark, powerful, straight Heavy Metal without any trend-setting. MACBETH sound real, honest and independent ”(Rockhard). In their German texts they provide insight into the depths of the human soul and tell depraved, demonic and insane stories.
