criticism

Ronald M. Hahn / Volker Jansen, Norbert Stresau note that ( although born in the dark of prehistoric times, our muscular hero is up to mischief this time in the 17th century ) the title character decides a tussle in a tried and tested way (...). Pirate king? Ho ho! The lexicon of international film gives a brief verdict : Colorful pseudo-historical drama .

  • The mixture of fantasy stories and ring inserts in such films has a loyal following who is not bothered by the naive story and the lack of expression of the actors. In this show, too, unpretentiousness is part of the essence of the film. (C. Cobast in Image et Son , 163 / June 1963.)
