The Madureira Esporte Clube , MEC for short , is a Brazilian football club from the Madureira district of Rio de Janeiro in the state of the same name . He currently plays in the fourth and lowest division of the Brazilian championship.
history
The club goes back to the Fidalgo Madureira Atlético Clube , founded in 1914 , which merged with the Magno Futebol Clube to form the Madureira Atlético Clube in 1933 . After the Madureira Tênis Clube and the Imperial Basquete Clube also joined this in 1971 , the current name was adopted. The founding date of the MEC was that of the Fidalgo Madureira Atlético Clube .
Since the 1980s, the MEC has played regularly in the first division of the Rio de Janeiro state championship . By winning the Taça Rio 2006 you could qualify for the championship finals, in which you had to admit defeat to the Botafogo FR . The second win at Taça Rio 2015 was no longer linked to qualification for the final.
Since the turn of the millennium, the club has also been regularly represented in the lower leagues of the Brazilian national championship . In 2008 he had to relegate from Série C to the newly founded Série D, but was able to rise again from this in 2010 to Série C. In 2015 he was relegated to the Série D.
