Maicón (real name Maicón Thiago Pereira de Souza ; born September 14, 1985 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) is a Brazilian soccer player who is currently under contract with the Grêmio Porto Alegre .

Career

The 184 cm tall and 87 kg heavy offensive midfielder began his professional career in 2003 with Madureira EC , a Brazilian third division club from Rio de Janeiro . From 2004 to 2005 Maicon was active at Fluminense Rio de Janeiro . In January 2006 he returned to Madureira EC and was subsequently loaned to Bangu AC in September 2006 and to Botafogo FR from October to December 2006 , where he came on five assignments. In January 2007 he returned to his hometown club Madureira EC.

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season Maicón moved to the German Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg for around 600,000 euros , where he received a four-year contract. On September 1, 2007, when he started in the Bundesliga for the first time, Maicón scored his first Bundesliga goal for MSV Duisburg against Arminia Bielefeld ; but it was his only hit in 20 missions. At the end of the season, the zebras were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . Although he mostly knew how to please with wit and ideas in his missions for MSV, he was unable to play permanently in the starting line-up neither under ex-trainer Rudi Bommer nor under his successor Peter Neururer , who preferred a double-six variant based on safety therefore only came to eight other missions in the 2008/09 season , in which he scored two goals.

Therefore, he was loaned to the Brazilian second division club Figueirense FC for a year in September 2009 . There he was part of the regular team again and was able to convince, so that he was firmly committed in summer 2010. At the end of the year he was promoted to the A series with the club .

In January 2012 Maicón moved to league rivals and top club São Paulo FC , where he also became an important part of the team.
