Magda Vášáryová (also Magdaléna Vášáryová , sometimes in older German sources also Magda Vášáry , born August 26, 1948 in Banská Štiavnica , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak actress and politician ( SDKÚ – DS ).

Life

Vášáryová is the younger sister of Emília Vášáryová , who also became an actress. Her acting talent was discovered early. At sixteen she got her first leading role in a film. After graduating from high school in 1966, she studied sociology , graduating from Comenius University in Bratislava in 1971. Since the political climate in Czechoslovakia had intensified again in the years after the crackdown on the Prague Spring , she did not want to work as a sociologist and remained an actress. She had already made several films during her studies. She first played at smaller theaters and later at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. In addition, she made numerous films. In the first half of the 1980s she paused after giving birth to two children.

After the Velvet Revolution , she became Czechoslovakian ambassador to Austria in spring 1990 . She stayed there until 1995, at the beginning she also worked in a few roles at the theater. Later, however, she was mainly politically active. Magda Vášáryová was a candidate for the 1999 presidential election in Slovakia and advocated a “civil society”. However, she did not make it into the runoff election. From 2000 to 2005 she was Slovakia's ambassador to Poland . From February 2005 to July 2006 she was State Secretary in the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 2006 , she was elected to the National Council of the Slovak Republic for the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union - Democratic Party .

Vášáryová is a signatory to the Anticharta . In her first marriage she was married to the actor Dušan Jamrich , her second spouse is Milan Lasica .
